We played all sorts of BSG trivia games some of those questions were hard! I was reluctant to play because I knew I would get royally shellacked. In this game, they played a silent video of an iconic scene between Baltar, Head Six, and some other person. Three people from the crowd were handed scripts, and they read the lines of that scene, in time well, more or less with the actors on the screen. It is a lot of fun, and not as easy as you think!
Then we had the BSG Panel. The participants were Ajay Chaudhary, teacher of philosophy and religion at Columbia University, and versed in all things Battlestar and Joss Whedon , Shane Froebel of Battlestar Wiki, and your humble narrator.
The audience was The questions and the answers -- no one was shy about voicing their opinions! All in all it was a fascinating evening. Look for the same group of people to repeat the event at a NerdNight in Manhattan some time in the not too distant future.
Lean back and let John Brooks rocket you around the Battlestar Galaxia! Are you still going through Battlestar withdrawl? Making your friends watch the mini-series so you can also get them hooked? Oh, and let's not forget the ambrosia. When "Battlestar Galactica" launched in , the comparisons between the television series and "Star Wars" were inescapable. The overwhelming success of "Star Wars" was directly responsible for Universal's decision to greenlight "Battlestar Galactica," and the similarities seemed so stark at the time that 20th Century Studios — then 20th Century Fox — eventually ended up suing Universal Pictures for copyright infringement via The Hollywood Reporter.
These copyright issues were so egregious that even Isaac Asimov chimed in to rip on the similarities between the two films. In an interview with radio host Phil Konstantin in , Asimov discussed his disappointment in "Battlestar Galactica," saying, "I thought 'Battlestar Galactica' was such a close imitation of 'Star Wars,' emphasizing the less attractive portions, that I was a little impatient with it" via Southwest Airlines Magazine.
Despite a mixed response over its final season per Gizmodo , "Battlestar Galactica" has enjoyed its status as gold-standard science fiction storytelling for well over a decade. The show focused on the last remnants of humanity as they flee into space away from the murderous robot Cylons as they search for a mythical planet known as Earth.
Still, as critically well-received as the show was and as dedicated as its fanbase was, this version of "Battlestar Galactica" didn't stick around for too long.
